Automotive service

Nobody became a technician to fill in forms.

A technician's value is diagnosis and repair. Everything else is overhead. FieldPal removes it: technicians speak, and the work gets written down properly; technicians ask, and get an answer grounded in the manuals, bulletins and repair history that already exist.

The overhead

A large share of the clock has nothing to do with the vehicle

Typing up job sheets. Retyping the same information into a warranty portal. Hunting through PDFs for a torque figure. Waiting on a phone call to someone who has seen this fault before.

None of it is diagnosis and none of it is repair, but all of it is billed to the same hour.

The problem

Two things slow a workshop down

  • The paperwork gap

Warranty claims fail for boring reasons. The description is too thin. The fault code wasn't recorded. The causal part wasn't named. The submission window closed. The claim gets rejected or short-paid, and the labour has already been spent. Manufacturers know this, which is why scrutiny keeps tightening. The burden lands on the person least equipped to carry it: a technician with dirty hands, standing next to a vehicle, being asked to write clean prose in a browser form.

  • The knowledge gap

Every network has one or two people who know everything. On a difficult fault, everyone calls them. They are a bottleneck by design, and when they are on holiday, on another call, or retiring, the network feels it immediately. Meanwhile the answer usually exists already, in a service bulletin, a previous repair record, or a technical note. It is just not findable by a technician who has ten minutes and a fault code.

FieldPal Capture

Structured records, spoken

The technician describes the job out loud in normal language. FieldPal turns that into a complete, correctly structured record: complaint, cause, correction, fault codes, parts, times, and whatever else the form requires.

  • Works with gloves on, hands dirty, next to the vehicle
  • Prompts for the fields that are missing rather than accepting a half-finished record
  • Produces documentation written to the standard the claim is judged against
  • Captured at the point of work, not reconstructed from memory at the end of the shift
  • Claims that go in complete and go in on time get paid. That is the whole argument.

What the technician sees

A warranty claim and a high-voltage check, written up at the vehicle

FieldPal on a tablet completing a warranty claim for registration YK21 QZA. The conversation on the left gives the correction, causal part number and labour time. The form on the right shows the VIN, mileage 38412, a complaint of limp mode with a coolant warning, fault code P0C73, a cause of an internally failed pump motor and the correction, with 9 of 10 fields complete.
A warranty claim built from three short descriptions of the job. Complaint, fault code, cause and correction each land in their own field, ready to review and approve before the claim goes in.
FieldPal on a phone showing an EV high-voltage safety check. Insulated gloves inspected, zero volts confirmed and vehicle secured are ticked, service disconnect removed is set to yes, and the isolation resistance reads 550. 7 of 8 fields are complete.

FieldPal Find

A phone call that no longer needs to happen

The technician asks: “Overheat warning on this model, do I check the thermal management system or the high voltage battery first?” FieldPal answers: “Check the heating unit first. This pattern has come up before on this platform and it was the heating unit each time.”

The answer comes with the repair records it drew on, so the technician can see where it came from and whether it applies.

Franchised dealer networks

Manufacturer-mandated rollouts have a particular shape

FieldPal is built for it.

  • Consistency across sites

A network of a hundred plus sites has a hundred plus interpretations of how a job sheet should be filled in. FieldPal applies one standard everywhere without retraining every technician individually.

  • Warranty integrity in both directions

Manufacturers get claims with real substance behind them rather than inflated hours and thin narratives. Dealers get claims that clear first time instead of bouncing.

  • Central technical expertise, distributed

The knowledge held by a small number of senior specialists becomes available at every ramp, in every workshop, at the moment the technician needs it. The specialists stop answering the same question forty times and get their day back.

  • New platforms, new faults

Electric and hybrid platforms are arriving faster than technician training can keep pace. High voltage systems, thermal management, software-driven faults. The gap between what the vehicle needs and what the technician has seen before is widening, and documentation is the only thing that closes it quickly.

The widening gap

High voltage work arrived faster than the training did

Electric and hybrid platforms bring faults most technicians have never met. Documentation is the only thing that closes that gap at the speed the workshop needs.

Independent service centres

The same problems, without the same support

  • No technical hotline

There is no central master technician to call. The knowledge in the business lives in the heads of the people who work there, and it walks out of the door when they do. FieldPal captures it as work happens and makes it searchable.

  • A far wider vehicle mix

A franchised workshop sees one or two brands. An independent sees everything, including vehicles the team has never worked on. Being able to ask a question and get a grounded answer matters more, not less.

  • Fewer people, tighter margins

Time not spent on a vehicle is money. Cutting the write-up from twenty minutes to two is a direct return, repeated every job, every day.

  • Evidence for the customer

A clear, complete record of what was found and what was done reduces disputes, supports the invoice, and builds trust with the person paying the bill.

In practice

No new workflow to learn

There's no second system to maintain in parallel.

  1. 01

    Open FieldPal at the ramp

It runs on a tablet, phone or head-mounted device, whatever the technician already has to hand.

  2. 02

Speak the job as you work

They speak in normal language, in their own accent, while the work is happening.

  3. 03

    FieldPal fills the gaps

It asks for anything missing and builds the structured record rather than accepting a half-finished one.

  4. 04

    Ask questions mid-job

FieldPal pulls sourced answers from the technical library without stopping the job or calling anyone.

  5. 05

    Push it into your systems

The record is reviewed and approved, ready for the DMS or warranty system. Automated push into those systems is in development.

Deployment

What it runs on and where the data sits

  • Runs on Android tablets, iOS devices and industrial head-mounted wearables
  • Data hosted in the EU, with full audit trail and retention for compliance
  • Your data stays yours, contractually, regardless of who sold you the licence
  • Voice notes and video record with no signal and process later; full offline working is on the roadmap

What we measure

We don't count licences sold

We count seats actually used, week on week, by named technicians on real jobs. A tool that sits unopened on a tablet has failed, whatever the invoice says.

Every deployment comes with an activation plan: on-site time, technician onboarding, and a usage target agreed before anyone signs anything.

Questions

What dealers and workshops ask first

Does FieldPal integrate with our existing DMS and warranty system?
Not yet. Today the record is reviewed and approved in FieldPal, ready to go into your DMS or warranty portal. Two-way integration is in active development, and FieldPal is designed to sit on top of those systems rather than replace them. Ask us where your specific system sits on the roadmap.
Where is dealership data hosted?
In Microsoft Azure, primarily in Sweden Central. A private segregated instance is available if your group's contracts require structural separation, and your data is never used to train models serving anyone else.
What does it cost for a workshop?
It's licensed per technician per month, with a lower rate the more of you there are. There's also a two-week free trial with no sales call and no card, so an independent can try it on real jobs before spending anything.

There is a conversation worth having

If warranty claims are getting rejected, if the same three people are fielding every technical question in the business, or if your technicians are spending more time in a browser than under a vehicle, we should talk.
